Why this order?
Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World is one of those rare anime where watch order genuinely matters, because the OVA films are released as standalone movies even though their events sit within the Season 1 timeline. The cleanest path is simply release order with the films slotted in where they were made to be seen: Season 1 first, then the two OVAs, then Season 2, then Season 3. This is the default "watch" order below, and it carries every entry from Subaru's arrival in another world through the events of Season 3.
Start with Season 1 (2016), the 25-episode run that establishes Subaru, his "Return by Death" ability, and the central cast including Emilia and Rem. Once you finish it, watch the two standalone films. Memory Snow (2018) is a light, comedic side story set during the lull in the middle of Season 1, and The Frozen Bond (2019) is an Emilia-and-Puck origin tale, a prequel set years before the series that deepens characters you already care about. Neither is strictly required for the main plot, but both land far better after you have finished Season 1 and before Season 2.
Then continue with Season 2 (2020), which adapts the Sanctuary arc and is the emotional core of the series, followed by Season 3 (2024), covering the Watergate City conflict. The one gotcha worth knowing: a Season 1 "Director's Cut" exists, re-edited into hour-long episodes that aired before Season 2 as a refresher. It is the same story, so first-time viewers can safely ignore it and watch the original Season 1.
If you enjoy this kind of dark isekai with a psychological edge, the genre neighbors worth a look are Konosuba (same light-novel publisher, opposite tone) and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.

Frequently asked questions
What order should I watch Re:Zero in?
Watch Season 1 first, then the Memory Snow and The Frozen Bond OVA films, then Season 2, and finally Season 3. This matches release order and slots the side-story films where they read best.
How many seasons and episodes of Re:Zero are there?
There are three TV seasons plus two OVA films. Season 1 has 25 episodes, Season 2 has 25 episodes, and Season 3 has 16 episodes, alongside the Memory Snow and Frozen Bond movies.
Do I need to watch the Re:Zero OVAs?
They are optional side stories, not required for the main plot. Memory Snow is a comedic interlude focused on Rem, and The Frozen Bond is an Emilia and Puck origin tale, both best watched after Season 1.
Where do the OVA films fit in the timeline?
Memory Snow is set during a lull in the middle of Season 1, around the time Subaru and Emilia prepare to head to the capital. The Frozen Bond is a prequel set years before the series, telling Emilia's childhood and how she formed her contract with Puck. Even so, the best first-watch spot for both is after you finish Season 1 and before Season 2, so you already know the characters the films expand on.
What is the Re:Zero Season 1 Director's Cut?
It is a re-edited version of Season 1 with hour-long episodes that aired as a refresher before Season 2. It is the same story, so first-time viewers can skip it and watch the original Season 1.
Is Re:Zero finished?
No. The anime is ongoing, and the source light novel by Tappei Nagatsuki continues beyond what Season 3 adapts, so more seasons are expected.
