Fire Country Watch Order

Two shows, five seasons aired so far: Fire Country (2022, season 5 arriving) and its spin-off Sheriff Country (2025, season 2 arriving). Broadcast order is the right order and there is no hidden chronology. The one thing worth knowing is that Sheriff Country was launched out of a single Fire Country episode, season 2 episode 6, Alert the Sheriff.

Fire Country Watch Order: complete list

0 / 9 done
  1. 22 episodes, October 7, 2022 to May 19, 2023. Convict Bode Donovan (Max Thieriot, who co-created the show) joins a Cal Fire inmate crew at Three Rock and is posted to Edgewater, the northern California town he grew up in, working alongside the parents he walked out on. This is the entry point for both shows: Sheriff Country's family drama only lands if the Leones are already established, and that happens here.

  2. 10 episodes, February 16 to May 17, 2024. The short one, and the reason the run looks like it has a hole in it: the 2023 writers and actors strikes pushed the season out of fall 2023 altogether, so there is a nine-month gap after season 1 and the order drops from 22 episodes to 10. Nothing inside it is filler, and episode 6 is where the spin-off starts.

  3. Aired April 12, 2024, directed by Max Thieriot, who shares the teleplay credit with Joan Rater and Tony Phelan. This is the Sheriff Country backdoor pilot, and it is a single episode rather than a multi-episode arc: an inmate escapes from Three Rock and the deputy called in is Morena Baccarin's Mickey Fox, Sharon Leone's former stepsister and therefore Bode's aunt. CBS ordered the spin-off straight to series on May 2, 2024 off the strength of it. Called out here because it is impossible to find from the outside; it is episode 6 of the season above, not an extra.

  4. 20 episodes, October 18, 2024 to April 25, 2025, with the final two airing back to back on the same night. This season carries both of the franchise's spin-off detours: Jared Padalecki's three-episode guest run as SoCal captain Camden Casey in episodes 5 to 7 (November 15 to December 6, 2024), which was meant to seed a second spin-off and so far has not, and Dirty Money in April.

  5. Aired April 4, 2025. Mickey Fox's only other Fire Country appearance before her own series: she and Bode investigate the attempted murder of her estranged father, Wes Fox (W. Earl Brown), an off-the-grid grower who becomes a Sheriff Country series regular. Together with Alert the Sheriff this is the entire Fire Country prerequisite for the spin-off, roughly ninety minutes of television.

  6. 20 episodes, October 17, 2025 to May 22, 2026. The first season to run in parallel with the spin-off, week for week on the same Friday nights, so broadcast order from here on means alternating between the two shows rather than finishing one first. Episode 13, The Bravest (April 3, 2026), is the second half of the two-hour crossover and should be watched after Sheriff Country's The Finest, not before.

  7. 20 episodes, October 17, 2025 to May 22, 2026, created by Joan Rater, Tony Phelan and Max Thieriot and shot in Toronto rather than Vancouver. Mickey is now Sheriff of Edgewater County, boxed in by her ex-con father Wes and her daughter Skye, with the murder of Skye's ex-boyfriend running underneath the season. Bode (Max Thieriot), Sharon (Diane Farr) and Manny (Kevin Alejandro) cross over from Fire Country. Episode 13, The Finest (April 3, 2026), opens the crossover at 8, an hour ahead of Fire Country's half.

  8. Premieres Friday, October 9, 2026 at 8/7c on CBS, one hour ahead of Fire Country's season 5 premiere; renewed on December 3, 2025. The episode order has not been announced. Listed before Fire Country season 5 here because that is the actual running order on the night: Sheriff Country has held the 8pm lead-in slot since its second week, so the spin-off airs first even though it is the newer show.

  9. Premieres Friday, October 9, 2026 at 9/8c on CBS, straight after Sheriff Country season 2. Renewed on January 22, 2026 with a 13-episode order rather than the usual 20, one of several order cuts reported across an unusually crowded CBS 2026-27 scripted slate; the practical effect is that Fire Country finishes its run earlier in the season than it normally would. CBS has not announced it as a final season.

Why this order?

Start at Fire Country season 1 and go in broadcast order. That is the honest answer, and it is worth saying plainly because nothing here is scrambled: no flashback season, no reordered timeline, no continuity fork. Fire Country ran three seasons before the spin-off got its own hour, and Sheriff Country starts from there rather than doubling back.

The part a search result will not tell you is where Sheriff Country actually begins. It was set up by a backdoor pilot, and despite the way that gets described, it is one episode, not an arc: Fire Country season 2, episode 6, Alert the Sheriff, which aired on April 12, 2024, was directed by series lead Max Thieriot and introduced Morena Baccarin as Edgewater County sheriff's deputy Mickey Fox. CBS ordered the spin-off straight to series three weeks later, on May 2, 2024. Mickey's only other appearance before her own show is season 3, episode 16, Dirty Money, on April 4, 2025, which introduces her estranged father Wes Fox (W. Earl Brown), a Sheriff Country regular from day one. So if you want Sheriff Country and nothing else, the homework is those two episodes, about ninety minutes, and then the spin-off's own pilot.

Two scheduling facts change how the later seasons line up. First, the shows run in parallel, not in sequence: Fire Country season 4 and Sheriff Country season 1 aired on the same Friday nights from October 17, 2025 and both finished on May 22, 2026, so a strict broadcast order interleaves them week by week rather than stacking one after the other. Their only genuine crossover is a two-hour event on April 3, 2026, told as one continuous story, and it has a required order: Sheriff Country's The Finest at 8, then Fire Country's The Bravest at 9. Second, the spin-off airs first. Sheriff Country took over the 8pm lead-in slot from its second week onward, so on any given Friday the newer show comes before the original.

What the season numbering hides is the strike gap. Season 1 ran 22 episodes and ended in May 2023; the 2023 writers and actors strikes then pushed the show out of fall 2023 entirely, so season 2 did not start until February 16, 2024 and ran only 10 episodes. It is a short season, not a partial one, and nothing is skippable inside it.

Both shows return on Friday, October 9, 2026: Sheriff Country season 2 at 8/7c, Fire Country season 5 at 9/8c, on CBS, streaming on Paramount+ the next day. Fire Country season 5 was renewed with a 13-episode order rather than the usual 20, one of several order cuts reported across an unusually crowded CBS 2026-27 scripted slate; it has not been announced as a final season. Boston Blue follows at 10 and is not part of this universe, it is a Blue Bloods spin-off. The one thing not to wait for is the second Fire Country spin-off: Jared Padalecki's SoCal captain Camden Casey was seeded across season 3 episodes 5 to 7 in late 2024, but as of mid-2026 there is no series order, no title beyond press speculation and no date, and Thieriot himself has said there is no update.

Frequently asked questions

What order should I watch Fire Country and Sheriff Country in?

Broadcast order, starting at Fire Country season 1: seasons 1 to 3, then season 4 and Sheriff Country season 1 in parallel (they aired the same Fridays from October 17, 2025), then Sheriff Country season 2 and Fire Country season 5 from October 9, 2026. There is no separate chronological order to publish.

Which Fire Country episode is the Sheriff Country backdoor pilot?

Season 2, episode 6, Alert the Sheriff, which aired on April 12, 2024. It is one episode, not an arc across several, and Max Thieriot directed it. It introduced Morena Baccarin as Sheriff's Sergeant Mickey Fox, and CBS gave the spin-off a straight-to-series order on May 2, 2024.

Can I start with Sheriff Country?

Yes, it is built to work on its own, but you will have missed its setup. Two Fire Country episodes cover it: season 2 episode 6, Alert the Sheriff (April 12, 2024), which introduces Mickey, and season 3 episode 16, Dirty Money (April 4, 2025), which introduces her father Wes Fox. That is about ninety minutes and it is the whole prerequisite.

How is Mickey Fox related to the Leones?

She is Sharon Leone's former stepsister, which makes her Bode's aunt. That connection is why the sheriff of a neighboring jurisdiction keeps turning up in a firefighting show, and it is established in Alert the Sheriff rather than in Sheriff Country itself.

When do Fire Country season 5 and Sheriff Country season 2 premiere?

Both on Friday, October 9, 2026 on CBS: Sheriff Country season 2 at 8/7c, then Fire Country season 5 at 9/8c, with Boston Blue season 2 at 10/9c. Episodes stream on Paramount+ the next day. Boston Blue is a Blue Bloods spin-off and has nothing to do with this universe.

Do the Fire Country and Sheriff Country crossover episodes have to be watched in a set order?

Yes. The two-hour crossover on April 3, 2026 is one continuous story: Sheriff Country season 1 episode 13, The Finest, aired first at 8, then Fire Country season 4 episode 13, The Bravest, at 9. Watching them the other way round spoils the first half.

Why does Fire Country season 2 only have 10 episodes?

The 2023 writers and actors strikes delayed production, so the season skipped fall 2023 and ran from February 16 to May 17, 2024 with a reduced order. Season 1 had 22 episodes and season 3 went back up to 20. Nothing was cut from the story; the season is just shorter.

Is there a second Fire Country spin-off?

Not yet. Jared Padalecki appeared as SoCal captain Camden Casey in Fire Country season 3, episodes 5 to 7 (November 15 to December 6, 2024) as a possible launchpad, and press reports have attached the working title Surfside, but CBS has not ordered it, no title is official and no date exists. Max Thieriot said in mid-2026 that there was no update. Nothing in the watch order depends on it.

Is Fire Country season 5 the last season?

CBS has not said so. The order was cut from 20 episodes to 13 for 2026-27, which trade reporting tied to CBS fitting more scripted series into the season rather than to the show's performance, and the practical result is that Fire Country wraps earlier in the season than usual.

When is Sheriff Country, Season 2 coming out?

Sheriff Country, Season 2 is dated October 9, 2026. Fire Country's spin-off, an hour ahead of its parent on the same night. After that, Fire Country, Season 5 is dated October 9, 2026.
